I tried smoking a cigarette when I was 15. Most of my mates smoked so I thought I'd give it a go. I followed the directions of my 'ten-a-day' mate, Craig, and slowly dragged the smoke down… then I coughed uncontrollably for the next four to fi ve minutes. IT WAS HELL. Craig reassured me that this happens to everyone when they first try a smoke. That was enough to make me a non-smoker for life.

I can't understand how someone could have such an unpleasant first experience with smoking and then go back to try it again and again until they do like it. I see friends my age who have been smoking for 10 years or longer and it makes me so pleased I made the choices I did during my teens. Smoking is bad for you.
